Beyond giving the outside of your house a fresh look, which is always a plus, exterior house painting carries some other benefits you may not have thought of. In today’s blog post we’re going to delve into a few of those.

1. New paint protects siding from the elements.

Rain, wind, debris, and other aspects of the outside environment can be pretty hard on your house’s surfaces. Over the years this can fade colors and make vinyl siding brittle. Splits and cracks are common once that happens, which then leads to needing to re-side at least part of your house. Our exterior house painters know exactly what your home needs.

By repainting every 5 years or so, you’re ensuring there’s always a protective barrier between the elements and your siding. That, paired with occasional pressure washing, controls the accumulation of dirt, moss, or discoloration.

Vinyl siding can last for up to 50 years, but only when it’s well cared for. Chemicals, erosion, and rain are all things that naturally occur and reduce that lifespan, but their effects are far less pronounced with regular care.

2. Exterior painting helps prevent pests, like termites.

Pests often make a home in your siding when there are cracks, holes, or weak spots. Once they’re inside they can be frustrating to get rid of — not to mention expensive.

Regular exterior painting can prevent exposed areas, making it tougher for critters to invade and cause issues. You can file those issues firmly in the category of things that, despite costs involved, are definitely better to avoid than address.

3. Painting can help prevent water damage and ensure structural integrity.

Similar to #2, water seeps in anywhere there’s an open spot in your siding. Weakened material with cracks or chunks missing invites moisture that can cause problems. Keeping surfaces solid and protected prevents all that, so you can feel better each time there’s a heavy rain fall.

Especially during storms. Nobody wants a leaky window or wall when there already may be a power loss, or other scenario where calling for help may be delayed.
