Tips for preventing wall scuff marks:

  1. Wall bumpers or chair guards are a great way to stop scuff marks on the whole wall when they are positioned at the chair height.
  2. Fabric covered chairs help to prevent paint from flaking when the chair bumps the wall. But can leave a fabric rub mark. (We’ll talk about how to get rid of those in a minute.)

Best practices for removing scuffs, scratches, and dents in the wall and paint in your high traffic areas:

  3. If it is a scuff then a simple damp cloth with some bleaching agent and elbow grease should remove the scuff in a jiff.  If you are a green home, than Shaklee decrease formula would work.

If it is a scratch or a dent in the wall from that chair bump the best thing to do is fill in the dent or scratch with caulk, when dry sand it down to a level surface with the rest of the wall, prime and repaint. Keeping in mind to paint a spot would mean painting the whole wall so that the spot isn’t a different color than the rest of the wall due to the age of the paint and sun age of the wall color.
